Comóradh an Chéad Dáil 2019. Beidh An Taibhdhearc ag cur dráma ar siúl stiúrtha ag Mícheál Ó Meallaigh bunaithe ar an Chéad Dáil a tharla i 1919.

Tosóidh imeachtaí ag An Taibhdhearc ag 2.50p.m.ar an 21ú Éanáir le siúlóid tríd ceantar coisithe na Gaillimhe agus beidh ath-chruthú don Chéad Dáil ar siúl os comhair an Túr ag Ionad Siopadóireachta na Faiche Móire (Eyre Square Shopping Centre) ag 3.30p.m . Stiúrtha ag Mícheál Ó Meallaigh, i measc na Teachtaí Dála don imeacht stairiúil seo beidh Diarmuid de Faoite, Catherine Denning, Áine Ní Dhroighneáin, Maidhc P. Ó Conaola, Deirbhile Ní Churraighín Seán, Ó Coisdealbha, Gearóidín Nic Thomáis agus Séamus Ó hAodha.

Don’t miss the celebration of 100 Years of Dáil Éireann which will take place 100 years to the day in the centre of Galway City at the Eyre Square Centre Tower.

Events will kick off in An Taibhdhearc at 2:50p.m. on January 21st with a walk through the pedestrian area of Galway, followed by a re-enactment of the first Dáil in front of the Tower of the Eyre Square Shopping Centre at 3:30p.m. Directed by Mícheál Ó Meallaigh, Teachtaí Dála for this historic and timely event will be: Diarmuid de Faoite, Catherine Denning,
Áine Ní Dhroighneáin, Maidhc P. Ó Conaola, Deirbhile Ní Churraighín Seán, Ó Coisdealbha, Gearóidín Nic Thomáis, & Séamus Ó hAodha.

This is an ideal opportunity to come out an commemorate 100 years of Irish history, extension of the vote to women, the beginning of the War of Independence and eventual Civil War. History students at Galway secondary schools and NUIG could benefit from this recreation of our past. Prof. Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh will speak from the Taibhdhearc after the event at 5:00p.m.
