Eolas breise

Faoi Walter Macken: Rugadh Walter Macken i nGaillimh ar an 3 Bealtaine 1915. Scríobh sé, d’aistrigh sé agus stiúir sé drámaí; bhí sé mar aisteoir, dhear sé cultacha agus radharcra, chomh maith le go leor eile. I mí Eanáir 1939, chuaigh Bord Stiúrthóirí na Taibhdheirce chun cainte le Macken, le ceist a chur air an bhfilleadh sé ar ais go Gaillimh as Londain le hoibriú mar léiritheoir. Bhí baint ag Macken leis an Taibhdhearc roimhe sin freisin agus i mí na Bealtaine 1939, ceapadh Macken mar Bhainisteoir/Stiúrthóir Drámaíochta na Taibhdheirce. Bhí Macken freagrach as 97 léiriú a rinne an comhlacht, lena n-áirítear 76 dráma. Ceann de na tréithe ba láidre a bhain le Macken ná an cumas a bhí aige drámaí maithe Gaeilge a scríobh agus daoine eile a spreagadh tabhairt faoi dhrámaí Gaeilge a scríobh freisin.

About Walter Macken
Walter Macken was born in Galway on the 3rd of May 1915. Macken wrote, translated and directed plays; he acted, designed costumes and sets and lots more. In January 1939, the Board of Directors of An Taibhdhearc approached him, asking if he would consider returning from London to Galway to work as a producer. He had also previously worked with An Taibhdhearc and in May 1939, Macken was appointed Manager/Play Director of the Theatre.
