Baboró International Arts Festival for Children sets out to enthral audiences of all ages (0 to 100!) with incredible and awe inspiring performances, engaging exhibitions and interactive workshops, encouraging the expression of creativity in the enriching atmosphere of Galway city and county. The following are shows that are taking place in An Taibhdhearc this year as part of the festival:
Theatre Lovett/ Mr. Foley, The Radio Operator (Ages 6+)
Old Jack Foley forgets to remember and remembers to forget. Once when he was young and strong, he dreamed of joining the circus. Now he has a sore toe and it’s not getting better as he sits by his radio tuning the dials on his memories.
Theatre Lovett invite you into their world of radio waves and sorrowful partings in Mr. Foley, The Radio Operator. Join Louis Lovett as he conjures characters and chapters full of charm from Mr. Foley’s colourful past.
There will be a Q&A after each performance.
“With true comic spirit, Theatre Lovett defies all age groupings to appeal to everybody.” – Irish Independent
“Lovett fills this hour with bravura touches…like the toy in the cereal box, he’s this package’s real prize.” – The New York Times
Duration: 65 minutes (including Q & A)
Shona Reppe/ The Curious Scrapbook of Josephine Bean (Ages 7+)
The clues are in its pages… Everything is flat, pressed, and squished. Slowly, page-by-page, the scrapbook becomes the window into a secret world. A curious life unfolds before us – but who is Josephine Bean? Shona Reppe presents a brand new show, leading the audience into a hidden world of wonders.
Winner of the Theatre Award UK for Best Show for Children and Young People in 2012
“Shona Reppe has conjured a near-perfect production for those aged seven years and over…. A truly wonderful show that will charm parents as much as their children.” – Thom Dibdin, The Stage
“This superb children’s show for the over-sevens by Shona Reppe is part-detective story, part-journey into the imagination…. It’s as stimulating a 50 minutes as you can spend in a theatre, delighting in the joy of discovery.” –Mark Fisher, Northings
