Following a successful theatre show as part of the Cuirt Festival of Literature, Galway’s musical foster children, My Fellow Sponges, perform their vivid music in the intimate setting of An Taibhdhearc theatre with splashes of drama.
Featuring appearances from Tommy Baker (Yer Man’s Puppets), J-Dog (The Gombeens) and more special guests.
My Fellow Sponges have been quietly winning over fans both locally and in small pockets around Ireland over the past couple of years. They are the embodiment of ‘something different’, evident in their folksy debut Bonne Nuit, a display of their determination not to be typecast.
Their most recent release ‘Air’ reveals yet another side of My Fellow Sponges’ ever changing sound. Featuring instruments such as piano, synth, saxophone, cello and three part harmonies it creates a cinematic, dreamy atmosphere with elements of synth heavy Trip-hop. Air follows the 2014 EP ‘Something Like Light’.
Their shows straddle effortlessly between jaunty-folk ditties, hip-swinging latin grooves and eerie minimalism. Over the years they have worked with brass ensembles, story tellers, dancers and actors in their live shows.
