ONLY OUR OWN
Written by Ann Henning Jocelyn
Directed by Cathryn Parker
Set design by Geoff Parker
Hailed by London critics, Only Our Own follows three generations of an Anglo-Irish family carving a place for themselves in modern Ireland.
The grandmother, Lady Eliza, is still haunted by atrocities witnessed in her childhood during the Irish War of Independence, while the young generation is anxious to distance itself and make a success of the present. In between, the parents face a choice of remaining in their ivory tower or reaching out to build bridges across the religious divide.
“Immensely powerful… a huge theme tackled with dynamic artistry.” (Lord Evans, The Spectator)
“Ambitious… powerful… subtle… skilful… well-rounded.” (Nicholas Hamilton, The Stage)
“Big, emotionally rich and dramatically interesting.” (Karl O’Doherty, Bargain Theatreland)
“Henning Jocelyn has clearly explored the attitudes of the Anglo-Irish with a foreigner’s refreshing eye.” (Libby Purves, London Theatre)
