Is í An Taibhdhearc amharclann náisiúnta na Gaeilge agus mar sin bíonn léiriúcháin Ghaeilge á stáitsiú inti chomh maith le réimse leathan seóanna Béarla.

Is iomaí forbairt a tharla sa Taibhdhearc ó bunaíodh í sa bhliain 1928 agus tá sí fós ag tógáil ar a bunchloch daingean agus ar aidhm a bunaitheoirí: go mbeadh An Taibhdhearc mar theallach ag drámaíocht na Gaeilge agus go spreagfadh sí nuadhrámaíocht na Gaeilge. Buaicphointí i bhféilire na hamharclainne is iad na drámaí nuálacha a léirítear mar chuid d’Fhéile Idirnáisiúnta Ealaíon na Gaillimhe agus Geamaireacht na Nollag, a chuireann gliondar ar pháistí agus ar dhaoine fásta araon chuile bhliain.

Rinneadh athchóiriú ar an amharclann le déanaí agus is ionad iontach í do dhrámaíocht, ceol, scannáin, fuirseoireacht, cruinnithe, seimineáir, ceardlanna agus seoltaí. Tá 148 suíochán san amharclann, áiseanna iontacha soilsithe agus fuaime agus ceadúnas beáir agus fíona. Tá an díoloifig ar oscailt Luan go hAoine 10am-5pm, ar an Satharn 12pm-5pm agus ar laethanta a bhfuil léiriú ar siúl.

An Taibhdhearc is the national Irish language theatre, staging Irish language productions as well as hosting a wide variety of productions staged in English.  Founded in 1928, the theatre has seen many changes since it first opened its doors. The aims and ideas of the theatre founders remain at the heart of An Taibhdhearc’s vision: to be a hub for Irish language drama and to inspire new Irish language work.  Highlights in the theatre’s calendar every year include groundbreaking pieces staged as part of the Galway International Arts Festival and the Christmas Pantomime which delights children and adults alike every year.
